Amanda Pays was born in London. Her parents are Howard Pays, an actor and show business agent as well as Jan Miller. A maternal aunt, Mandy Miller, won fame as a child actor in the film of the 1950s Crash of Silence (1952) . Pays started her schooling in an institution near her home when she was only eight years old. It was here that she began to learn how to act and eventually to make it as an actress. Pays was a natural vocalist with a distinctive voice. She was frequently cast in male roles in school productions that were all girls. At her mother's suggestion, Amanda sent a Polaroid photograph to a modeling agent and quickly found herself having a lucrative career that over the next four years, took her all over the world. At twenty-two she became bored of "clotheshorsing" so she decided to go into acting. An intense study at London's Academy of Live and Recorded Arts resulted in her professional debut opposite George Segal in The Cold Room (1984), an HBO production written and directed by James Dearden, who later wrote Fatal Attraction (1987). Since then, Pays had appeared on the screen, stage and stage in her home country of England and in America. Pays roles include "Fire Eaters" an London fringe production, and Thames Television's Minder. Minder on the Orient Express (1985). She was also the Lady Victoria in Oxford Blues (1984), in the role of Rob Lowe. Sarah was on the show in the ABC miniseries A.D. (1985) alongside James Mason and Ava Gardner. Sister Nicole was on the show Off Limits (1988), starring Willem Dafoes and Gregory Hines.
